What Will Improve Your Summer?
Looking Forwards

When the first Bose Frames were released, this was a very exciting product, but I could not see how the company could sustain the profit margins as updating the camera was not an option like Apple have done for fifteen years. However, although I was very impressed, I held off purchasing my first Bose Frames until 2025 after they had been discontinued.
The sound of the sunglasses is exactly what you would expect from a Bose product My thoughts for delaying my purchase were:
1 The battery life of the glasses which started off at 3.5 hours and increased to 5.5 hours with the upgraded release.
2 The charging case which did not follow the Apple headphones releases around the same time and allow a person to charge the Frames.
I was hoping an improvement to the case would be the next release with a further upgraded battery however, Bose discontinued the range. Today Ray-Ban provide a much more versatile product with the Meta glasses and charging case. Rumours continue that Apple will be also releasing some glasses in due course.
I wear sunglasses all year around. I am not your average sunglasses customer. In the UK as we do not have lots of sunshine the range of sunglasses styles and lenses offered by Ray-Ban will make it more wearable and an acceptable product for the Beach and holiday enthusiast.
The Bose Frames would have been an instant purchase if the battery life meant I could turn them on in the morning and get a day’s usage from them without turning them off again. This would allow me to listen to music and a book over a long journey, access navigation apps and take phone calls. As I was traveling on the train allot when the Frames were first released the length of battery did not work for me personally and the compact light apple headphones meant I used them ahead of the Bose Frames as they also had a very quick recharging feature. Sunglasses allow the ears to be left open which is a massive advantage especially with the increase in Zoom and Teams meetings over recent years and the increased importance of maintaining good ear health with all the activities we all do using headphones in 2025.
Using the Apple watch as an example we already know when technology was introduced in to watches they started off with a short battery life and now can be considered a value for money product. As Meta glasses add features and diversify further with the range of apps they connect with and the ways we can use cameras, access information and communicate I will monitor the reports on the expected battery life closely of the anticipated next release before considering them as a serious and useful product. If the battery life can support good usage for twelve hours, I will be very excited about the potential of this technology.
A significant advantage of glasses is that it is on a person’s face. The delay of turning a device on to take pictures and access information quickly may long term be the reason why Meta takes the lead of Bose and discontinue their range over the coming years as the novelty goes away, and they get left at home on a shelf.
The glasses have the ability to record meetings, capture important moments with pictures and improve relationships with colleagues, family and friends. Glasses may at first feel more intrusive as they are more visible than a phone but in fact as they become more widely used can create a more transparent and inclusive environment as the glasses indicate to people when recording is in progress.
After purchasing my Bose Frames I am looking forwards to receiving the next updates on the Meta glasses and improved features this will bring to the market. I am disappointed that Bose left the market without leaving us one charging case.
In a traditional nine to five office day traveling to work and back home considering the usage at lunch time six to eight hours battery should be the minimum goal for sunglasses manufacturers to produce if at this stage twelve to fourteen hours is not realistic without ruining the design.
Bose should be congratulated for creating some really good sounding sunglasses. I am pleased that I now have added some to my collection and am looking forward to making use of them over the summer.
If the sunglasses technology market in the cold and rain of the UK want to create a sustainable product the battery life will be a game changer for me personally as the way the product can be used and will be used significantly changes if it can stay constantly on like we expect from our phones and watches.
Meta have begun to create a really exciting product. I have been impressed with the design and features. Sunglasses will complement any phone and lifestyle and why I will be making the decision of upgrading either one or both of my sunglasses or phone soon.
